Her sarcasm doesn't fall far from the tree

My 9-year-old daughter Erin was telling me about a conversation she had at school yesterday with her good friend, Emily. It went like this:

Emily: Don't you have something to say to me today?
Erin: Nope!
Emily: Are you SURE?
Erin: Yep!
Emily: (speaking out of the side of her mouth, like it's a secret) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Erin: It's not my birthday today.
Emily: I mean, SAY "Happy Birthday" to ME!
Erin: OH! Happy Birthday, Emily!
Emily: Thank you!
Erin: See? I told you I'd never forget.
